Abstract

Diffuse sclerosing variant of papillary thyroid carcinoma is very rare. However, the clinical feature is aggressive in that T stage at diagnosis is advanced and the incidence of lymph node metastasis and distant metastasis is high. Therefore, early diagnosis and aggressive treatment is required. Preoperative fine needle aspiration cytology is helpful for diagnosis of papillary thyroid carcinoma, but it is difficult to classify them into various subtypes. Since diffuse sclerosing variant shows characteristic ultrasonographic findings, consideration on these findings with fine needle aspiration cytologic analysis will be helpful for early accurate diagnosis and treatment plan.
